Heather Nevay was born in Scotland in 1965. She studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1983 – 1988 and graduated in Art and Design. After leaving Art School Heather participated in numerous group shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 1995 Heather had her first solo show with Cyril Gerber Fine Art in Glasgow, followed by another in 1999.
Heather started exhibiting with Portal Gallery in 1999 and in April 2001 had a joint show with fellow Portal Painter, James McNaught. Portal Gallery represents several Scottish artists who share a truly quirky and original vision.
Heather Nevay’s paintings are intensely painted in acrylic and oil on canvas or panel. Her images are compelling. A recurrent theme in Heather’s work is that of children standing in a garden or a maze with animals and with toys which are cast aside as they embark on a journey. This is a metaphor for the difficult and complex path into adulthood. Heather uses symbolism to express ideas of heroism, weakness, fear and the shifting balance of human relationships. Her latest work explores the complex games children play and also the story of Bluebeard.
Heather Nevay’s work has attracted an almost cult following with collectors worldwide.
